PROSEPECTS OF A WOMAN COCKTAIL
Cocktail recipe courtesy of photographer & mixologist, Risa James and crafted especially for “Cocktails & Conversations” featuring Wendy Voorsanger’s book Prospects of a Woman.
Ingredients:
- Legado rye whiskey
- 2 fresh lemons
- 1 bunch fresh sage
- California sage honey (see below)
- Angostura bitters
Prep California sage honey about an hour in advance:
Heat 1/2 cup water with 1/2 cup granulated or turbinado sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Add several fresh sage leaves.
Stir until sugar dissolves.
Just before the mixture boils, remove from heat and allow sage to steep for 30 minutes.
Strain out sage leaves and store cooled syrup in a glass bottle in the refrigerator.
Mix it up:
Slice the lemon in half, then slice off a wheel from the fattest part of the lemon.
Juice the remaining lemon to yield 1 oz. of fresh juice.
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz. Legado whiskey, 1 oz. fresh lemon juice, 1/2 oz. sage simple syrup, 1 generous teaspoon of sage honey, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.
Fill the shaker 3/4 full with ice and shake 20 seconds.
